Dr Lance Morgan, CEO of the Marine Conservation Institute and Chair of the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition sends our regards to the ISA on their 25th Anniversary.
He congratulates the ISA on their scientific achievements which have aided our understanding of the deep ocean, both its complexity and vulnerability.
The deep ocean plays an essential role in supporting all life on earth. However, it is already suffering from past and present human activity, from the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification. Therefore, Lance states that it is fundamental to dedicate the next 25 years of the ISA towards working for the protection of the deep ocean. He warns against the exploitation of minerals and encourages the ISA to take the lead in collaboration for the protection of the deep ocean for the future.
