Bottom trawling in Parliament


Wednesday 19 October 2005. Activists from the Living Oceans Society and Ecology Action Centre dressed as deep sea creatures highlight the dangers to deep sea habitat from deep sea bottom trawl gear weighing several tons on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada.

11 October 2006 – Australian Senate acknowledges the recent Australian Government position on high seas bottom trawling and with full cross-party support called on Australia to pursue all diplomatic avenues to ensure its's position on high seas bottom trawling is adopted at the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

25 May 2006 – 'We are good at bottom trawling' states Government official
During the May estimates hearings, Senators were informed that Australia was good at high seas bottom trawling and was a responsible trawling nation.
